Things not so electric at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show
Members of the JLU Leisure team recently visited the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC, Birmingham. This is one of the biggest events of the year for the caravan industry and provides the public with an opportunity to see brand new caravans, towing vehicles, try out high tech camping accessories, and speak to expert exhibitors.
As usual the event was very well organised and attended, to no surprise when more and more people are choosing to spend their summer holidays in the UK.
Something else we found noticeable though was that there was very little in terms of presence from Electric Vehicle manufacturers. We are potentially just 12 years away from a UK with only electric vehicles on the roads and there were no evident signs that the caravan industry is preparing.
Caravan Dealers seemed confident that car manufacturers will provide solutions although those motor manufacturers present did not seem to be looking beyond Hybrid vehicles, and questions regarding the ability of all electric vehicles to tow caravans or towing distances were met with blank faces.
Definitely work to be done and real concerns that a leisure industry which continually expounds its eco-friendly credentials is not being more proactive.
