Boost for cycling

On top of the opportunity presented by the growth of the Ebike sector the prospects for the UK cycle industry received a further boost as the Government announced a “once in a generation” £2 billion plan to boost cycling and walking both during and after the current coronavirus lockdown.

The £2 billion plan starts with £250 million to enable local authorities to pay for “pop-up” cycling and walking infrastructure to cater for physical distancing during lockdown and is part of £5 billion in new funding announced for cycling and buses in February.

Cycle sales to the general public will undoubtedly increase as a result and there is also potential for huge growth in the sales of cargo bikes as business look to change their ‘last mile’ delivery models.
